Third Sunday of Lent
7th March 2021
Children’s Resource
In today’s Gospel we read about Jesus visit to the Temple. The Temple is a Holy place where people go a pray to God. However, in the story we learn that the people were using the Temple of God as a market place, buying and selling animal and other goods and exchanging money. This made Jesus very angry and he freed the animals and overturned the stalls in the market place. Jesus loves His Father so much He did not want to see people mistreat God’s Holy place.
Start your prayer by creating a sacred space, you will need:
A Purple cloth or scarf
A cross or crucifix
A candle (real or battery)
A bible or prayer book
We begin our prayer by blessing ourselves;
+ In the name of the Father,
and of the Son and of the
Holy Spirit.
Amen
The Gospel of John 2:13-22 (ICB)
But it was almost time for the Jewish Passover Feast. So, Jesus went to Jerusalem. In the Temple he found men selling cattle, sheep, and doves. He saw others sitting at tables, exchanging money. Jesus made a whip out of cords. Then he forced all these men, with the sheep and cattle, to leave the Temple. He turned over the tables and scattered the money of the men who were exchanging it. Then he said to those who were selling pigeons, “Take these things out of here! Don’t make my Father’s house a place for buying and selling!”
When this happened, the followers remembered what was written in the Scriptures: “My strong love for your Temple completely controls me.”
The Jews said to Jesus, “Show us a miracle for a sign. Prove that you have the right to do these things.”
Jesus answered, “Destroy this temple, and I will build it again in three days.”
The Jews answered, “Men worked 46 years to build this Temple! Do you really believe you can build it again in three days?”
(But the temple Jesus meant was his own body. After Jesus was raised from death, his followers remembered that Jesus had said this. Then they believed the Scripture and the words Jesus said.)

My Jesus, I believe that you are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I Love You above all things and I desire to receive You into my Soul. Since I cannot, at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if you were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You.
Amen.
